  • posts have at least one image/podcast/video (i think that's good because it breaks up blocks of text)
  • creative post titles (always a plus)
  • use the read more function so the post becomes its own page and it makes scrolling through to find a specific post easier since it cuts down on the amount of text
  • using tags (keeps it orderly and nice)
  • the side bars look a lot like the one on this site, with an ask box, blurb about the author/editor/you, twitter feed, and archive option
  • how not to write a novel def uses humor in their posts (example: http://www.hownottowriteanovel.com/?p=96    ---- it's about Jean-Robert, the Genre Bear (helps writers determine what genre they are writing in or want to write in))
  • Also I tried but I couldn't get a landing image for this page- it may be for the best since a landing image would have to go either above or below the title for the page and that may end up looking a little cluttered
  • I do want to point out that bookmama has the running theme of pink (subtle though she is about it), and her titles are all in pink to create that unifying theme
    • edit: we cannot change title colors apparently (I have tried)
Mostly it seems that the design elements will come into play with the actual posts, which I think can work well with the image you are trying to promote- it's warm and supportive, but also clean and organized (no major clutter)
